The Public Education and Citizenship Committee Program is probably the single greatest resource that a Particular Lodge can use to get better involved with the community and maintain those partnerships once they are established. It is so much more than just adopting a school or teacher. While there are multiple ways to support a local school, this program also includes the involvement in both Masonic and non-Masonic youth groups, assisting municipalities with non-Partisan voter registration, visitation to an assisted living facility of any kind, the submission of articles to local media and the Florida Mason, or any other type of community service project or activity. We are even including Child ID as a part of this program moving forward. Simply put, if a Lodge is doing any work in the community, chances are, they should be receiving credit for such work within this program.

The Public Education portion of this program is twofold, the first includes the various local and state scholarship options, and the second includes the adoption of schools and teachers, as well as the various school activities that schools can utilize.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

The state sponsored scholarship opportunities are the Statewide Essay Program, which offers scholarships to high school seniors for writing an essay on “Why Education is Important” and the Malcolm Archie McDougall Scholarship program, which offers scholarships for writing a brief written explanation “Outlining their life and educational goals and how the scholarship can directly help them achieve their goal.”
